Dennis
Montoya
June 21, 1954 – July 20, 2025
Dennis "Rojo" Montoya, a man known for his kindness, friendliness, and gentle spirit, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Alamosa, Colorado, on July 20, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on June 21, 1954, to the late Cristobal Montoya and Anita Jiminez Montoya, Dennis lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community. He married the love of his life, Arlene Casados, in Alamosa, Colorado on August 9, 1980 and they enjoyed 17 years until her death in 1997.
After honorably serving in the United States Army and earning the designation of National Defense Service Medal, Dennis transitioned back to civilian life and quickly became a familiar face in the Alamosa workforce. He first joined the team at Montgomery Wards and, over the years, lent his talents to Rahkra Mushroom Farm and Higgins Farms. His career culminated with his retirement as the esteemed Maintenance Supervisor from the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center, where his work ethic and camaraderie left a lasting impact.
Beyond his professional contributions, Dennis was a cherished member of the Alamosa Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 1297. His love for his family was ever-present, with special attention given to his grandchildren Ethan, Rihana, and Gabriela Trujillo. He found profound joy in their twice-weekly visits, anchoring his week with laughter and love. His children, Amy Montoya and Monica (Robbie) Trujillo, both of Alamosa, will forever remember him as a loving father whose guidance shaped their lives.
An outdoor enthusiast, Dennis relished time spent in nature, whether working meticulously on his yard, fishing, or simply driving to discover new vistas. Cooking was another of Dennis's passions, along with the pleasure he found in settling down to watch a good western on television.
Dennis leaves behind a legacy of warmth and camaraderie, with his memory lovingly carried on by his siblings Eliosa Roybal of Ogden, Utah, Pauline Torrez of Denver, CO, Susie (Eddie) Maestas of Oklahoma City, OK, Rose (Frank) Martinez of Westminster, CO, Ronnie (Sharel) Montoya of Alamosa; his brother-in-law Carlos Arispe of Westminster, as well as his adored grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends who all knew the comfort of his friendship.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene Casados Montoya, his sisters Oralia and Juan Bueno, Laura and Walter Espinoza, Becky Arispe, and brother-in-law Rudy Roybal.
At his request, cremation was chosen. A graveside will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. with military honors at the Alamosa Cemetery. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center to be used in the Oncology Department, at 106 Blanca Avenue, Alamosa, CO 81101.
