Obituary

Denise Miriam Calvey, 65, of Moffat, Colorado, passed away on July 21, 2026.

Denise was born on November 3, 1960, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to the late Paul F. Calvey and Vera S. Bacher.

A longtime resident of Moffat, Denise embraced a simple, peaceful way of life. She found joy in living close to nature and was content living off the land and off the grid. Denise was an avid crafter and enjoyed sharing her creativity and kindness with those around her.

Denise had a deep appreciation for the natural world. She loved bunnies, treasured the beauty of nature, and was an avid collector of gems and crystals. She was also fascinated by Egyptian mythology, a passion that reflected her curiosity and appreciation for history and mystery. Those who knew Denise will remember her as a modest, gentle soul who found happiness in life’s simple pleasures.

She is survived by her longtime friend, Noreen Cook; Barbara Cruishank; and her best friend, Sondra “Sandy” Swett. Denise and Sandy shared a special bond and many cherished memories together. As a tribute to their unique friendship, Denise will forever remain Sandy’s “Moonbeam,” and Sandy will always be her “Nanner”—a special expression of love and friendship that meant the world to them both.

Denise was preceded in death by her husband, David D. Zarecor. The two were united in marriage on September 11, 1998, in Penrose, Colorado. She is also preceded in death by her two bunny children, Venus and Zeus.

A celebration of Denise’s life will be announced at a later date.

She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, and her gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
