Blanca resident Dawnia Beth Cooper, 70, died May 31, 2023 at her home in Blanca.

Dawnia's life began in Del Norte, Colorado on May 11, 1953, the proud daughter of O.D. Fleming and Joyce Washington Fleming. She married the love of her life, Douglas O. Cooper in Blanca, Colorado on February 12, 1972. They enjoyed 24 years together until his death in 1996.

Dawnia worked for more than 26 years at the Sierra Grande School as an Administrative Assistant. She loved music, her animals, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Shayna (Gene) Garrett of Alamosa, and Jennifer Cooper of Wichita, Kansas; her mother Joyce Fleming of Alamosa; her grandchildren Jacob Cooper, Davion Reed, and Audryanna Reed; her siblings Laura Fleming of Alamosa, and Jim (Leslie) Fleming of Alamosa; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Dawnia is preceded in death by her father O.D., her husband Douglas, her sister Mary Gay Martin, and her grandson Khalil Reed.

Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the First Christian Church, 1st and State Avenue in Alamosa.
