Cora Ellen Wolfe, was born on April 22, 1928, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. On January 17, 2026, she passed away peacefully in Alamosa, Colorado, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration and warmth that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

The daughter of John David Lunsford and Mary Lucy Simmons Lunsford, who remembered coming to Colorado as a little girl in a small Conestoga wagon. Cora was a bright light within her family from the beginning. She grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings, Johnny Lunsford, Lela Mae Sankey, Walter Lunsford, and Betty Purcell, all of whom had preceded her in passing.

Cora found strength and companionship in her devoted husband, George Edward Wolfe, whom she married on September 9, 1952 in Colorado Springs, CO. They built a beautiful life together until George's passing on February 26, 2012. They endured the profound sorrow of outliving their young son, George Emerson Wolfe. Cora loved spending time in nature—hiking, identifying flowers/plants, and picnicking.

Cora leaves behind a legacy through her beloved children: Coralee Ann Casias (George) of Ft. Garland, CO, Kathy Lynne Tolsma Hettinga (Nathan Sooy) of Dillsburg, PA, Eric Alan Wolfe (Margaret) of Pueblo West, CO, and Ron Perry Wolfe (late Rosemarie) of Colorado Springs, CO. Her grandchildren—William Emerson Hettinga, Benjamin Harrison Wolfe (Lauren Seegmiller), Christopher Blaine Wolfe (Haley), James Edward Wolfe, Jonathan Stuart Wolfe (Caileigh Whitworth), Benjamin Richard Sooy (Kate), and Nicholas James Sooy (Oshahdi)—will carry her spirit and teachings with them as an enduring treasure. She also leaves a legacy though her great-grandchildren Violet Marie Wolfe, Carter Alan Wolfe, Amalie Claire Sooy, who she was very proud of.

Cora was a remarkable woman of intellect, earning multiple Master's Degrees in Science and Education and achieving the honor of Valedictorian at Nazarene University. Although she aspired to be a doctor, she chose to channel her talents into education; her passion for science inspired countless students throughout her nearly 30 years of teaching in Waverly and Alamosa School Districts. Her involvement in the local National Education Association, having served as its President, highlighted her dedication to the academic community. One of her students went on to work at NASA and wrote in his book dedication to, "One of America's greatest teachers." She was also active in the Current Events Club and served at one time or other in all the officer positions. She also had been active in the Democratic Party and served as a delegate.

Her creativity shone through in every aspect of her life. Cora crafted exquisite handmade cards with pressed flowers and inspirational words, including poems and scriptures that heartened many. A skilled seamstress, she lovingly made wedding dresses for her daughters, along with exceptional clothing for family. Neighboring children were drawn to her inviting home, as she would share the joy of music by letting them play on her piano. Cora grew up in the Nazarene tradition and was an active member of the College Heights Baptist Church. Her deep spirituality was evidenced in her commitment to memorizing scriptural passages such as Psalms 91 and Isaiah 35 and in her devoted membership at the Grace Assurance Church.

Cremation was performed at the Rogers Family Mortuary Crematory in Alamosa. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., April 22, 2026 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO . Randy Brown, Pastor of Grace Assurance Church will preside.
