Obituary

Carolyn Diana Torrez, 84, of Saguache, Colorado, passed away surrounded by her loving family in the early morning hours of March 18, 2026. Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on February 12, 1942, to the late Delbert and Easter (Lamb) Bishop, Carolyn embodied the warmth and nurturing spirit of a homemaker throughout her entire life.

Carolyn's journey was one of steadfast love and service. After marrying the love of her life, Joe Torrez on October 5, 1957, she embraced the role of a mother and wife with unwavering dedication, raising her children, Tina Richter, Thom (Becky) Torrez, Tim Torrez, and Tammy (Mark) Oost, with endless generosity and support. Her family was her world, expanding to include 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a cherished great-great-grandchild, her siblings Delbert (Joann) Bishop Jr., Deborah (the late Charlie) Tolliver. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Torrez, their infant daughter Jodi LeAnn Torrez, and her siblings Delberta (Ray) Gonzales, Jerry Bishop, and David Bishop.

Carolyn's professional and community life was marked by her commitment to service and leadership. For many years, she diligently transported children as a school bus driver for the Harrison School District in Colorado Springs. In 1979, the family moved to Saguache, where Carolyn was very community oriented; she drove a school bus for 4 years for Mountain Valley Schools and was a volunteer EMT in Saguache for over eight years. In 1983, Carolyn began a rewarding 28-year banking career at First Southwest Bank, rising through the ranks to become a respected branch manager at the Saguache branch for many years.

Cooking, baking, and candy making were not just pastimes for Carolyn, but also expressions of love. Widely known for her irresistible homemade candy, she delighted in contributing to bake sales and cooking for others; everyone always loved her food. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.

Carolyn's passion for life spilled over into her enjoyment of the outdoors, camping, and tending to her yard, reveling in the beauty of nature. She was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was active in the Center and Monte Vista Kingdom Halls, her faith-filled presence uplifted many.

Cremation was performed at the Rogers Family Mortuary Crematory in Alamosa.
