Obituary

In Loving Memory of Bertha Alicia Garcia (“Ama”) It is with profound sadness and boundless love that we announce the passing of Bertha Alicia Garcia, affectionately known to all as "Ama," who left this world on June 2, 2026. Ama was, without question, the strongest woman we have ever known, possessing a heart so big it had room for absolutely everyone she met.

Born on June 26, 1942, Bertha was born and raised in a small town in Temósachic, Chihuahua. She learned the value of hard work and resilience from a very young age of 9. Bertha (Ama) starting working early in life to help support her loved ones, and as she grew up she helped get her siblings through school.

She navigated life with fierce determination and an unwavering spirit. Ama was a quiet warrior who faced every single one of life's storms head-on, she had the gift of turning her own hardships into a shield to protect and uplift the people she loved.

No matter the burden she carried, her resilience never failed, and her courage became the guiding light for our family. But beneath that unshakable strength, she had the most generous, compassionate heart imaginable.

Ama’s greatest joy in life was taking care of her family, pouring endless devotion into her role as a mother and matriarch, especially in the tender care she gave to her daughter, Mariselva.

Ama opened her door to everyone and loved all she met, treating friends and strangers alike as if they were her own family. Her home was always a sanctuary of warmth, comfort, endless cups of coffee, laughter, and love. She also cherished the simple moments of life such as a trip to the mountians for the day, the sweet songs of birds, and sharing a story of her younger days. She particularly enjoyed and looked forward to her late-night phone calls with her sister Margarita, where the two would talk and laugh together until they cried.

Ama’s incredible, sprawling legacy of love lives on through her 10 children, 28 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by: Her son Jesus (Graciela) Garcia of Mexico, and grandchildren Pamela, Gerardo, Lupita, Genesis, and Jesus. Her daughter Emma (Rafael) Velazquez of Scottsbluff, NE, and grandchildren Rafael, Baleria, and Galylea. Her daughter Graciela (Aquelino) Lara of Scottsbluff, NE, and grandchildren Bradley Jesus, Mayra, Eustacio, and Gabriela. Her daughter Bertha Garcia of Montrose, CO, and grandchildren Yesenia, Jeremiah, Audrey, Shayla, and Nehemiah. Her daughter Julieta (Benito) Fernandez of Saguache, CO, and grandchildren Adriana (Juan) Olivas and Julian. Her son Ismael (Biseida) Garcia, and grandchildren Emily (David) Alliyah (Anthony(Ap), Ismael, and Seanna. Her daughter Josefa Garcia of Alamosa, CO, and grandchildren Andre(Celia), Juan, and Alitza. Her son Jorge (Angelica) Garcia of Mosca, CO, and grandchildren Idahlia, Jorge, Nayeli, and Ariella. Her daughter Rosario (Abel) Rodelas, and grandchildren Felipe and Aaron. Her dear sister, Margarita and niece Nereyeda (Daniel) Martinez and family.

Ama was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Jesus Manuel, Her beautiful daughter Mariselva, infant grandson Victor Garcia as well as her parents and her brothers and sisters who preceded her in death. She is also survived by a vast circle of extended family and friends who were fortunate enough to walk through her doors.
