Obituary

Bernard Eugene "Butch" Hotz, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, in his hometown of Alamosa, Colorado. Butch was born on November 12, 1948 to Fred B. Hotz and Geraldine Lindsey Williams. He was a lifetime Alamosa resident whose love for the beautiful Colorado landscape was surpassed only by his love for his family.

Butch leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his children Eric Hotz of Commerce City, Mark and wife Shauntel Hotz of Monte Vista, and Jennifer and spouse David Pogue of Campbellsville, Kentucky. Butch was extremely proud of his role as a grandfather to Brycen Hotz, Ethan Hotz, Joslyn (Jon) McEwen, Rachel (Rio) Machado, Blake (Jasmine) Hotz, Brantley Hotz, Kaylee (Taylor) Burress, Gracie (Noah) Riley, and Tyler Pogue, as well as in being a great-grandfather to eleven great-grandchildren. He will also be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom brought him happiness.

Butch was well-known for his entrepreneurial spirit and his skilled hands, owning and operating his taxidermy business for many years. His skills were not limited to taxidermy; he was also incredibly talented in construction. Butch also had a passion for hot rods and building cars, playing guitar, and many other creative and artistic hobbies.

Always eager to explore the great outdoors, Butch was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and an overall nature enthusiast. He deeply loved spending quality time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing their interests and ardently supporting them in their sports and various activities. Those who knew Butch best would describe him as a handy and creative man—traits that were evident in all his undertakings and hobbies.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Annette Wright and Cindy Tafoya, wife Janet Hotz, and grandson Alec Hotz.
