Obituary

With a spirit as enduring as the Colorado landscapes she loved, Barbara Jean "Bobbie" (Darnall) Orton brought warmth and joy to all who knew her. Born on November 26, 1938, in the small town of Manassa, Colorado, to Leonard Darnall and Phoebe (Bailey) Darnall. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on June 22, 2025, in Monte Vista, Colorado, leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched.

Bobbie's life was a testament to enduring love, exemplified by her 68-year marriage to her beloved husband, Roy Leon "Ordie" Orton, whom she married on September 1, 1956, in Taos, New Mexico. Throughout their life together, they created a home filled with life's simple pleasures. Roy survives her in their family home, a testament to their lasting bond. Bobbie's love also lives on through her cherished children, Arlyn Oakes of Monte Vista, CO, Kally Orton of Sanford, CO, and Jerry (Carol) Orton of Alamosa, CO. Her essence will be fondly remembered by her many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, all enriched by having been part of her life.

Professionally, Bobbie was meticulous and skilled, serving as a bookkeeper for many years. Her dedication to her community was evident in her 12+ years tenure on the Mosquito Control Board for Alamosa, where she worked diligently to serve her neighbors and friends. Bobbie's interests extended beyond her professional life and into her cherished role as a mother, raising three incredible children.

Bobbie's hobbies and interests kept her busy every summer, she allowed her children the unforgettable experiences of getting them to their rodeo competitions. She enjoyed watching western movies and would watch professional basketball and rodeos from the comfort of her living room, sharing her passions with her family. Bobbie's grandchildren will hold dear the memories of summers spent camping, where she taught them the joys of mountain croquet, the thrill of picking wild strawberries, and the adventures of playing in the creek.

Her love for excitement found expression in her fondness for gambling, the camaraderie of bingo, and the artistry of sewing, crocheting, and ceramics. Everyone who knew Bobbie can attest to her loving, kind, and thoughtful nature.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Phoebe, and her siblings, Will Darnall and Larna Sowards.

Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held. Contributions are suggested to Hospice del Valle, 514 Main Street, Alamosa, CO 81101.

Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in care of the arrangements.
