Austin "Tomahawk" Al York, 35, of Alamosa, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly. He was born on February 17, 1991, in Shiprock, New Mexico, to Victoria McRoy. Austin was a proud believer of God, His light shined through him. He brought his passion for service and creativity into his daily life, recently working as a cook at the Rubi Slipper restaurant in Alamosa. A true jack of all trades, he was incredibly multi-talented and always the first to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need, embodying his Christian values through his generosity. Austin also had a deep love for music and was a gifted artist who found great joy in drawing. An avid Denver Broncos fan, his enthusiasm on game days was infectious, but above all else, he cherished his family and friends, placing the people he loved at the center of his life.
Austin is survived by his mother, Victoria McRoy, and his sisters, Jessica C. McRoy and April Montoya; his brother, Raul Montoya, Jr.; his stepdaughter, Unique Salazar; and his beloved nephews, Jordan and Jo'ziah, and niece, Emelia, along with a host of extended family members and close friends.
The funeral service to honor and celebrate Austin's life and faith will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Church of God Cristo Salva, 5375 county Rd.105 south. A visitation will follow immediately from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the visitation, a burial service will be held at 12:30 PM at the Alamosa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be considered to the Austin Al. York Memorial Fund to assist with final expenses.
