Schaak
August 23, 1928 – October 19, 2023
Alfred Theodore Schaak, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home on October 19, 2023, at the age of 95. He was
surrounded by love from his family.
Alfred was born in Monte Vista, Colorado, at the Monte Vista Hospital to Adolph T. Schaak and Mary Van Treese-
Schaak on August 23, 1928. He was their miracle baby.
Alfred farmed for many years of life until he joined the Monte Vista COOP, where he provided propane services
to so many around the San Luis Valley. If you knew Alfred, you knew he carried a bag of yummy suckers in
his truck to give to all his customers and their children. Alfred retired with the Monte Vista COOP after 33 years
of service.
Alfred loved the outdoors. He always had one of the best-looking gardens. He also loved to ride motorcycles
and snowmobiles. Alfred was also a member and past president of a 4-Wheeling club. He was a past member
of the Monte Vista Elks, a member of the Silver Threaders Snow Mobile Club. He liked hunting, fishing, camping
and roasting weenies and marshmallows over a campfire. He was an avid Denver Bronco fan.
Alfred is preceded in death by his wife, Betty A Schaak, mother of 8 of his children, his parents, Adolph T. Schaak
and Mary Van Treese-Schaak, his children Danny Schaak, Robert Schaak, Cynthia Schaak (infant), Terri Holman and
Michael Schaak.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Worley-Schaak, his children, Rodney Schaak, Grand Junction, CO., Karen
Schaak, Alamosa, CO, Michele Schaak, Alamosa, CO, Alfred Schaak Jr., (Allison) Monte Vista, CO and Alan
(Marcia) Schaak, Krugerville, TX. His 11 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was
loved by his family, and he will be greatly missed.
Services will be held Monday October 23, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista, CO with burial to follow at the San Luis Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Hospice del Valle, 514 Main Street, Alamosa CO 81101, who assisted the family with Alfred's care.
