Obituary for Una Louise Whitmer

Monte Vista resident Una Louise Whitmer, 89, passed September 10, 2022 at the Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado.

Una was born in Sugar City, Colorado on April 26, 1933, the daughter of Lynn E. Oxford and Doris E. (Hawkins) Oxford. She married the love of her life, Bobby L. Whitmer in August 20, 1951 in Taos, New Mexico.

Una was a homemaker and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them all dearly. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos football games and watching the Colorado Rockies. In her earlier years, she was an active member of the Monte Vista Presbyterian Church and served an as elder and president of PWA. She volunteered in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and received a special reward from the Girl Scout Council for her service. She also liked to bowl and was a member of the Colorado 600 Club. Una had beautiful flower gardens at her home. She loved taking her dogs for walks and they were her life.

She is survived by her children Charles (Shelley) Whitmer of Del Norte, CO, James (Lottie) Whitmer of Monte Vista, CO, Janet Whitmer of Monte Vista, CO, and Barbara (Lawrence) Haley of Monte Vista, CO and daughter-in-law Denise Crawford; her grandchildren Zach Whitmer, Samuel (Taylor) Whitmer, Aimee (Bryan) Hamil-Judice, Courtney Stevens, Jonathan (Angel) Whitmer, Whitney (Jason) Boose, Mandi Whitmer, Colleen (Kenny) Williams, Max (Kirsten) Whitmer, Brenna Whitmer, Griffin Whitmer, Michael Gallegos, Cassandra Haley, and Jordan (Cheyenne) Haley; 12 great-grandchildren; her special friend for more than 70 years, Margaret VanBibber; her sister Ruth Woodke of Troutdale, Oregon; her brother Thomas (Nami) Oxford of Yakima, WA; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Una is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her children Donald Whitmer and William Whitmer, and her brother-in-law Gene Woodke.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Monte Vista Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to Conour Animal Shelter in her name.
