Obituary for Russell Wayne Hensley, Jr.
Russell Wayne Hensley Jr, age 57 died at home with his family and loved ones by his side on December 2, 2021.
After battling for two years with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Wayne went to heaven to be with the good Lord.
Wayne was born September 16, 1964 to Russell Wayne Hensley, Sr. and Naomi (New) Hensley Cook. He was born in Alamosa, Colorado. They lived in Mosca, Colorado where Wayne attended grade school and high school. After graduating high school Wayne went to Pueblo Community College and earned a degree in diesel mechanics. After school Wayne became a truck driver.
In June of 1994, Wayne met Rose Gunter and was married on May 27, 1995 in Monte Vista, Colorado and Wayne inherited three step children Sherry Disney, Gregory Gunter, and Garold Gunter. Wayne continued to drive a truck and Rose was a nurse.
Then in August 2000, Wayne and Rose moved to Johnstown, Nebraska where they raised cattle, sheep, hogs, and horses, and Wayne drove his truck.
Wayne taught his grandchildren how to break a horse to ride, change a tire, check the breaks, and change the oil on his truck, AI a cow and they always had very very long conversations on what bulls to buy to AI the cows. When feeding the cows Papa always has someone with him. When on short hauls with the truck Papa always had someone with him and McDonalds was always a stopping point. We will miss Christmas and Wayne coming in on the truck.
Russell Wayne Hensley JR is survived by his wife Rose Ann Hensley, mother Naomi (New) Hensley Cook, sister in law Jackie Howard Hensley. Step children Sherry (James) Disney, Gregory (Mya) Gunter, Garold (April) Gunter, Niece Amanda (Jason) Williams. Along with, 12 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and four great nieces.
Russell Wayne Hensley Jr was preceded in death by his father Russell Wayne Hensley Sr and brother Roger Hensley.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Mosca United Methodist Church. Interment will follow services in the Speiser Cemetery.
