Obituary for Ronald D. Graustein

Ron Graustein passed at Evergreen Nursing home in Alamosa on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

He was born on June 13, 1942 in Cambridge, MA to Harold Graustein and Adeline Marshall Graustein. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Harold (Pauline) Graustein.

A spirit of adventure and enterprise brought him to the West by the 1980’s. He explored a variety of locations in Colorado, including living in and running a restaurant in Alamosa, before he eventually settled in the Boulder area. There he built relationships with others in the construction trades and for a time ran a secondhand store. He was active in the Unity church community and there he became known as a caring, supportive friend, especially when others were in need, a man with a hearty laugh and an open heart.
By the early 90’s, the open road again beckoned to Ron and he remembered his familiarity with the San Luis Valley. He made the decision to return to enjoy a more rural lifestyle in his later years. Ron was an animal lover and could be found at home nurturing his dogs and cats. With retirement, he made extra income hauling potatoes for famers in the valley.

Ron was a quiet man with a big heart who was not afraid to offer a helping hand when needed. This is how he will be remembered by those who knew him best.

He will be laid to rest in the Alamosa Spanish Cemetery on Tuesday, August 25th at 10 am.

Thank you so much to the staff at Evergreen Nursing Home for the excellent care he received over the past year. Thank you to Rogers Family Mortuary, and Alamosa County for their help and kindness since his passing.
