Obituary for Richard Louis Ruybal

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Richard Ruybal. Richard passed away Monday, November 1, 2021. He was 70 years old. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, brother, tio, friend, community member, and so much more.

Richard was born to Kate and Edon Ruybal of La Jara, CO. Richard was the eldest of three children, and had one sister and one brother. He graduated from Centauri High School and then graduated from Adams State College. He was the first to graduate from college in his family. Richard married Julie (Hart) in 1980. They had three children: Andrea Haynes of Pueblo, CO, Matthew Ruybal of Monte Vista, CO, and Stephanie Ruybal of La Jara, CO. He loved being a Papa to his four grandchildren: Genesis, Emma, and Evan Haynes, and Hunter Ruybal. Richard worked for the U.S. postal service for 40 years in the San Luis Valley. He started in Monte Vista, then worked as the assistant postmaster in Alamosa, and finally as the postmaster in La Jara. He retired in 2014. In retirement, he enjoyed life on the ranch, gardening, and spending time with family. A lifelong member of the Catholic faith, Richard devoted his life to church, family, ranch life, and his community. He was a Boy Scout troop leader, a member of the local Rotary, and was very active in his church.

Survivors include his wife Julie (Hart) Ruybal of La Jara, CO: three children: Andrea Haynes (Steven) of Pueblo, CO, Matthew Ruybal (Trudy) of Monte Vista, CO, Stephanie Ruybal of La Jara, CO, and his four grandchildren: Genesis, Emma, and Evan Haynes, Hunter Ruybal, and his siblings: Virginia Jordan (John) of La Jara, CO, and Thomas Ruybal (Jo Ann) of La Jara, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Richard in death were his parents, Kate and Edon Ruybal.

The Rosary will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara, CO. a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 8, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. Rest in Peace, Richard Ruybal. You are loved and missed!
