Obituary for Ray C Nietsche
Roy Clark Nietsche, 86 of Monte Vista, CO passed away on May 27, 2021 at the Veterans Center in Monte Vista. He was born on August 9, 1934 in Hudson, New York the son of RaymondHans and Margaret (Clark) Nietsche. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held various callings. He served in the United States Air Force for 12 years and the United States Army for 16 years. His military service started in 1952 in Korea as a B-26 nose gunner, then he served a stint in the K-9 corps and security patrolman on several military bases, including the Presidio in San Francisco. He traveled to 14 countries while in the military, mostly in the Air Force. During his service, Nietsche earned 17 ribbons and medals, among those were the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Presidential Korean Citation and several good conduct awards. He joined the Army National Guard and started as a medic. He was then promoted up through the ranks to Detachment 1st Sergeant and retired as an E-7, which was the highest rank he achieved. He later volunteered for the Monte Vista Ambulance Service and worked for the City of Monte Vista. He retired from the Military and the city of Monte Vista. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife Gayla and daughters April Nietsche of Monte Vista and Ashley (Jared) DePriest of Sanford. His grandchildren, Joseph (Emily) DePriest of Logan, Utah, Dalton DePriest currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mexico City, Chalco, Wylan (Bekah) DePriest of Rexburg, Idaho and Wyatt DePriest of Sanford. He is also survived by a daughter Julie Brown and sons Michael and Mark (Darlene) Nietsche of Marysville, California and grandchildren, Alyssa, Mark, Brent, Jillian and Samantha, his great grand daughter, Dixie DePriest, his sister Carol (Bill) Rose, brother-in-law Ron McManigal as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Virginia McManigal.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at the Rio Grande Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monte Vista.
