Longtime Bountiful resident Ray Jackson, 90, died February 25, 2021 at the Colorado State Veterans Center at Homelake.
Ray and his twin brother Jay were born December 14, 1930 in Bountiful, Colorado to William Gilbert Jackson and Ruth Agnes Shawcroft Jackson. He met the love of his life Arlene Norma White. They were united in marriage in the Lilyfield United Church in Lilyfield, Manitoba, Canada. Their marriage was sealed for all time and eternity in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 17, 1957. His greatest blessing was loving and raising his family.
Ray worked since an early age of about 9 years old herding sheep in the mountains. He truly loved his job of raising sheep and farming. Shortly after high school Ray served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955.
He served a Spanish-American mission for the church and spent much of his time in the Brownsville, Waco and El Paso, Texas areas.
Ray is survived by his children: Rhonda (Charles) Thomas of Manassa, Donna (Steve) McCarroll of La Jara, Debra (David) Timmins of La Jara, Adele (Tom) Barr of Sanford, Annette (Rod) Reynolds of Sanford, Brian (Cindy) Jackson of La Jara and Darrell (Mandy) Jackson of Alamosa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild; his sister Mary Beth (Allan) Reynolds of Sanford; his sister and brother-in-law Richard and Lenore Anderson of Salt Lake City, UT; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene, his twin brother Jay Jackson, and his brothers Gene and Lloyd Jackson.
Ray’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses at the Colorado State Veterans Home at Homelake for their care, love and support given. They are so grateful for the help that was given over the past years and they witnessed the daily care extended to Ray as he was treated like family. Thank you!
