Obituary for Nona Corrine Peterson (Douglas)

Former San Luis Valley resident Nona Corrine Peterson, 92, passed away February 19, 2022, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Nona’s life began in Houston, Texas on January 2, 1930, the proud daughter of Howard Douglas and Loie Bandy. Her father died in 1947 and she was raised by her mother and her stepfather Harold Dewey.

She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She graduated from Albuquerque Beauty College in 1963 and worked at Antonio’s Beauty Salon. She often assisted with care of the elderly. She loved studying health and nutrition and was an avid reader. She was very independent, adventurous, and loved to travel. She took pride in her home and spent countless hours remolding and fixing it up. Above all, Nona was proud of her children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments.

She will be forever cherished in the lives of her children: Harold (Katherine) Peterson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Connie (Terry) Beckner of Carmel, Colorado, and Shaun (David) Peterson-Monda of Placitas, New Mexico; her grandchildren Jason (Stephanie) Peterson, Scott (Alyssa) Peterson, Brett (Nicole) Peterson, Ryan (Autumn) Dyer, Dewey (Lacy) Dyer, Steven Mortensen, Gil Dyer, Jennifer Bauder and Cory Bauder; as well as numerous grandchildren and extended family and friends.

Nona is preceded in death by her father Howard, her mother Loie, her stepfather Harold; her grand-daughter Kacey Dyer-Mortensen; and her great-granddaughter Lacy Dyer.

A Funeral Service to honor her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2022, at the Rogers Family Mortuary, 205 State Avenue in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the San Luis Valley Cemetery in Monte Vista.
