Longtime Alamosa resident Mike Domenic Curto, 87, died March 2, 2021 at his home in Alamosa, surrounded by family and under hospice care.

Mike was born in Walsenburg, Colorado the son to Domenic and Nancy Lenzini Curto. He married the love of his life, Peggy Rose Budd, on January 16, 1960 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Alamosa.

Following his military service, Mike returned home and worked for many years as a heavy-duty mechanic for the Colorado Department of Transportation. He was a fireman for the Alamosa Volunteer Fire Department and served in the capacities of both Chief and Captain. His hobby was helping out on the family farm with raising barley and cattle. He and Peggy travelled extensively across the United States, also visiting Mexico, Canada, Latin America, Korea and Italy.

Mike is survived by his wife Peggy Curto of Alamosa; his children Michael (Sally) Curto of Brunswick, GA, Diedre (Bob) Todd of Monte Vista, CO and Joseph (Sandra) Curto of Grand Junction, CO; his granddaughters Courtney (Corey) Dye of Monte Vista, CO, Chelsea Todd of Alamosa, Andrea (Danny) Snow of Grand Junction, CO and Desiree Madrid of Grand Junction, CO; three great-grandchildren Domenic, Zane and Jazmin; his siblings Mary Curto of Grand Junction, Angelo Curto of Pueblo, Flora Shippy of Tucson, AZ and Mario (Rita) Curto of Alamosa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Domenic, his mother Nancy and his grandson Richard Todd.

Cremation was chosen and a Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A committal of ashes will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in his memory to Hospice del Valle, 514 Main Street in Alamosa, CO 81101 or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 726 3rd Street, Alamosa, CO 81101.
