Obituary for Mary Maxine Veliz (Santisteven)

Longtime Alamosa resident Mary Maxine Veliz, 88, passed away January 1, 2024 at the San Luis Valley Regional Health Center in Alamosa, Colorado.

Mary was born to Antonio and Carmelita (Garcia) Santisteven on September 4, 1935 in Amalia, New Mexico.

Mary was a very loving mother and grandmother who especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She liked to pass the time by watching TV and listening to Spanish Music. Mary also enjoyed spending time in the sunshine doing yard work.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Josie Mireles of Grand Junction, Irene (Ernie) Robinson of Florida, Adolph (Brenda Barbara) Villagomez, Roque (Josie) Villagomez of La Jara, Frank (LeeAnn Pacheco) Veliz Jr of Alamosa; her siblings Esther (Jose) Raya of Alamosa, Joe (Sandy) Santisteven of Alamosa; 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Francisco Veliz; both of her parents Antonio and Carmelita; her siblings Eva Arellano, Louisa Mascarenas, Viola Casanova, Rosie Santisteven, Henry Santisteven, Richard Santisteven, and Frances Medina.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday, January 19, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Memorial Mass will be at the same location at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the Mass in the Alamosa Cemetery.
