Obituary for Mary Ann Mattick

Alamosa resident Mary Ann Mattick, 79, died February 21, 2021 at her home in Alamosa.

Mary was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 23, 1941 to Ralph Jones Skidmore and Hallie Wright Skidmore. She married the love of her life Gene Arlen Mattick on May 14, 1965 in Campbellsburg, Kentucky.

Mary worked in several positions throughout her career including working with her husband at their business Mattick Oil and later as a Bank Teller and in secretarial for the Rural Electric Cooperative. She also worked for the Environmental Protection Agency and Homeland Security in Denver before retiring to Washington to be with her daughter Gail. She loved the Lord & serving Him through music, playing her own music arrangements, singing, and teaching. She began to play piano and organ at church at the age of 12 and played her last special at her church Elmwood Baptist in Brighton, CO before retiring to Alamosa last year. Mary played at College Heights Baptist and Calvary Baptist churches previously in the valley, as well as churches in Washington, Florida, and Kentucky. Her summers were spent being a horse show mom and grandma for her daughters and granddaughter being active in 4-H and the San Luis Valley Horsemen Association. She helped her adult daughter Gail show horses in Washington and Idaho as well with longtime friend and trainer Jodi Simpson.

She is survived by her daughter Vicki Gail Davis of Alamosa, CO and Rebecca Jean Mattick of Brighton, CO; her granddaughter Samantha Williams of Brighton, CO; three great-grandchildren Sophia, Shance, and Sadie Williams; her nieces Cindy Swisher of Yuma, AZ, Rachel Horn of Leesburg, FL, Julie Mattick of Billings, Montana.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, her sister Virginia Nightengale, her mother-in-law Sibyl Mattick, her stepmother Loetta Sullivan Skidmore and an infant daughter Kathy Lynn Mattick.

Cremation was chosen and there will be a graveside service in Carrollton, Kentucky with her beloved family where she will be laid to rest with her husband and infant daughter at a future date.
