Obituary for Marilyn Johanna Witt

Marilyn J. Witt went to her eternal home Thursday, October 29, 2020.

Marilyn was born eighty-six years ago to William and Terena Heersink in Alamosa, Colorado. She attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan for two years before she came home and married her school sweetheart, Laurens Witt, who she was married to for sixty-three years.

Before Marilyn worked as a paraprofessional in the Alamosa School District for many years, she worked in the local hospital. She was an active member in her church, the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church, teaching Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and attending Bible Studies. She volunteered as a Hospital Ambassador with her warm smile and willingness to help.

She loved to read, play the piano, garden, read her Bible, and visit with friends and family. She had a big, compassionate heart for anyone and everyone who was hurting. Her faith in her Lord and Savior ran deep and strong and was concerned for her loved ones’ spiritual walk. She was known as a sweet, caring, amazing, encouraging, and kind Christian woman.

Marilyn was a wonderful and thoughtful mother who will be missed by her children – Lauralyn Marshall of Illinois, Mark Witt of Missouri, Kenton (Melanie) Witt of Iowa, and Lynnette (Brett) Marino of Alamosa; along with her four grandchildren – three grandsons and one granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Laurens Witt of Alamosa; her sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Bud Tolsma of Alamosa; brother-in-law, Adolf Heersink of California; her parents, William and Terena Heersink of Alamosa; along with other family members.

A Visitation will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church in Waverly. Private interment will be held in the Alamosa Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Marilyn Witt Fund at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church, 1861 County Road 10 South, Alamosa, Colorado 81101.
