Obituary for Mary C. Martinez

On Sunday, March 24, 2019, Mary Martinez passed away at age 81.

Mary was born on July 22, 1937 in El Paso, TX, to Aniceto and Refugio (Romero) Cruz. She grew up in Espanola, NM and moved to Alamosa. On June 28, 1957, she married Fred Martinez and they raised seven children.

Mary had a passion for playing Bingo and frequenting her favorite restaurants. She spent the majority of her career with the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, and was extremely proud of her time with the medical profession. She lived a simple life, which included spending time with her treasured grandchildren and dropping everything to watch Wheel of Fortune. During football season, she loved watching the Denver Broncos. She was an avid collector of candles and assorted collectibles, and had a collection numbering in the hundreds.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Aniceto, her mother, Refugio, her husband, Fred, her daughter, Marie, her grandson, Justin Callicutt, and her grandson, Mathias Fritz. She is survived by three of her daughters, Theresa Martinez of Alamosa, Anna Fritz-Lampton (Frank) of Colorado Springs and Gloria Harwood (Charles) of Las Cruces, NM, three sons, Steven Martinez (Lena) of Lara, David Martinez (Margie) of Alamosa, and Anthony Martinez (Yolanda) of Colorado Springs, 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 3:00 p.m. with a rosary at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow services at the Alamosa Cemetery.

Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa.
