Obituary for Manuel Joseph Chairez

Fort Garland resident Manuel Joseph Chairez, 31, gained his Angel’s wings on December 18, 2021, at his home in Fort Garland.

Manuel was born in Alamosa, Colorado, the second of three children born to Baldomero “Manuel” Chairez and Catherine L. Montoya. He graduated with his GED, finishing high school one year early.

Manuel was a fun-loving person with a good sense of humor, he loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. One of his favorite past-times was listening to music and especially enjoyed the 80’s music.

Manuel liked helping his Grandpa Joe mow the lawn and enjoyed sharing stories with his Grandma Orlinda over a cup of morning coffee.

He is survived by his mother Catherine Chairez of Fort Garland, his son Manuel R. Chairez of Fort Garland, his special friend and son’s mother, Rebekah Trodick and (Zisla) all of Fort Garland; his sister Micaela Chairez of Denver; his brothers: Louie Chairez of Canon City, Isaiah Chairez of Fort Garland, Miguel Chairez of Fort Garland; his maternal grandmother Orlinda Montoya of Fort Garland; his paternal grandmother Emilia Chairez, of Juarez, Mexico; his niece Emma Jo Rost (Chairez) of Fort Garland; his uncles and aunts: Manuela Chairez of El Paso, TX, Ramiro Chairez of El Paso, TX, Blanca Estella Chairez of Iowa, Juan Carlos (Elva) Chairez of Dallas, TX, Juana Chairez of Dallas, TX, Marivel Chairez (Martin) of Dallas, TX, Martina Chairez of Juarez, Mexico, Anna Chairez of Dallas, TX, Jose Luis Chairez of Juarez Mexico, Joey (Marian) Montoya of Fort Garland, CO, David (Lupita Orozco) Montoya of Fort Garland, CO, Carolyn Montoya (Gary Cucarola) of Arvada, CO, Robert (Donna) Montoya of Northglenn, CO, Terry Montoya of Denver, CO.

Manuel is preceded in death by his father Baldomero “Manuel” Chairez, his sister Marivel Chairez, and his grandfathers Joe Montoya and Luis Chairez.

A Visitation will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by a Recitation of the Rosary 10:00am and a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., all at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Garland. Interment will follow services in the Fort Garland Cemetery.
