Obituary for Lynn Mortensen

Lynn Mortensen
Lynn C Mortensen, 65, resident of Sanford Colorado, passed away peacefully in his home on December 29, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

Lynn was born on November 4, 1950 to Joe and Ruth Mortensen. A 1969 graduate of Sanford high school, he attended Mesa community college where he played football, and then returned to the valley continuing his studies at Adams State College.

Lynn loved the Great Outdoors and was well known for his horsemanship and was often referred to as the “horse whisperer”. He broke some of the finest horses in the country.

Lynn enjoyed several years of working with his uncle Corky Mortensen. After that he worked as the President and Manager of Rakhra Mushroom Farm for almost 30 years. It was there that he truly grew to love and respect the people as much as they loved and respected him.

Lynn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served many callings and loved working with the youth. He also served in the Manassa Stake Presidency for many years, and through this service was able to positively impact many lives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda Chacon Mortensen, and his two daughters Laticia and Leann. Leann (Jay) Gartrell; Grandchildren: Dalton, Kelton, Trason, and Riggin. Laticia (Jess) Caton; Grandchildren: Kayla (Gavin) Davis, Ashlee, Dana, Brady and Step Granchildren, Lance Brooklyn, Andie and CJ.

Lynn was preceded in death by his children Lance and Lacy Mortensen. He was also preceded by parents Joe and Ruth Mortensen, Father in Law, Raymond Chacon, and his sisters Donna Larsen and Shirla Reynolds. He is also survived by his Mother in Law, Cora Chacon, sister Sandra (Carl) Hatch, his brother Ric Mortensen, Sister in Law, Anna Rae (Chuck) Garrett, Brother in Law, Ray (Natalie) Chacon, Brother in Law, Jack Reynolds, Sister in Law, Carrie Chacon, Sister in Law, Raissa (John) Austin, and many nieces and nephews.

Above all, the most enjoyable thing to Lynn was the time and memories that were created while spending time with his grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2016 and from 9:00-9:45 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 both in the Sanford Relief Society Room at the church. A Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Sanford Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow services in the Sanford Cemetery.
