Obituary for Lois H. Broyles

May the winds of love blow softly and whisper for you to hear
That we’ll always love and miss you
And wish that you were here

Our beloved Mother, Lois H. Broyles lived a long wonderful life and is now at peace and on her next journey.
Lois H. Broyles age 102 was born March 15, 1919 and passed away November 17, 2021.

She is survived by three daughters, Doris Dean, Priscilla (Bill) Reynolds and Wanda Flack. She leaves behind a legacy of 4 generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband and best friend Harry, her son Terry, a granddaughter, two great grandsons, her parents and four siblings. What a glorious reunion she is having!

She was a true pioneer woman and spent her younger years in a log cabin up in the canyon close to Fox Creek. Lois loved the mountains and spent her days fishing, hunting and helping her family with all the chores necessary to make a living off of the land. During her life she became an excellent fisherman and has fished in every fishing hole in the Conejos River that runs through the San Luis Valley.

Lois married the love of her life, Harry Broyles, and together on a small farm/ranch at Fox Creek they raised their four children enjoying a simple life that involved hard work, success, failures but always lots of adventures.

After her family grew up and left the family home, Lois went to work at Montgomery Wards as a manager of the Sporting Goods Department. Her knowledge and expertise could not be matched.

Later in life and after retiring, she had time to pursue her passion for oil painting. She was a gifted artist, she had the amazing talent of capturing the beauty and wonder of the Colorado Mountains on canvas for everyone to enjoy. Our homes are blessed with these beautiful works of art. She painted until her eye sight failed.

Lois had a passion for genealogy and has compiled volumes of data tracing generations of her family and friends which she loved to share. She enjoyed her association with the Senior Citizen group in the valley and spent time as a leader of the group, helping the organization meet the needs of the valley seniors. She was also a caretaker and record keeper of the Fox Creek Cemetery for many years. She spent a lot of time keeping the graveyard clean and organized.

A best day for our Mom was a quick trip to the mountains with a picnic lunch and a walk among the pine trees to enjoy the quiet beauty of God’s gift to us. She loved family reunions at the Ranch sharing her stories and games with the family.

Lois always put her family and friends first and she will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of being a part of her life.

There is a service planned at the Fox Creek Branch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with interment following services in the Fox Creek Cemetery.

Rogers Family Mortuary is in care of the arrangements. To leave online words of comfort, remembrances and condolences for Lois’ family, please visit www.RogersFunerals.com
