Obituary for Leon Jay Bolt

Alamosa resident Leon Jay Bolt passed away March 20, 2022, in Denver at University Hospital after a long battle with a rare genetic disorder.

Leon was born to Rodney and Bonnie Bolt on April 4, 1967, in Platte, South Dakota. He married Tandi Smalley December 20, 1986, and they had one beautiful son, Dustin Jay Bolt.

Leon worked numerous jobs growing up. He would get up early and milk cows before he would go to school and then make it to the evening milking shift afterwards. Leon was an expert horseman and spent some time breaking and training horses. He was a mechanic for many years and then he became a feed sales person for the Monte VIsta Coop. Leon took pride in his job and made sure he put his customers first. He was known to make trips on his days off to take something to the customers if they needed it. His delivery area not only included the San Luis Valley but the Gunnison, Salida, and Crestone areas as well. One of Leon’s favorite jobs was helping Dr. Ben Konishi when he went out on farm calls. No matter when Dr. Ben called, Leon was happy to drive him to the call and help out. When he wasn’t at work Leon enjoyed roping, taking care of his cattle and sheep, fishing, and watching old westerns. He enjoyed seeing his nieces and nephews and their children. His absolute favorite thing to do was to support whatever his son Dustin was doing.

Leon was one of the most kind people. He was constantly helping out someone, whether he knew them or not. He made sure to always have a special treat for his nieces and nephews when he visited them and he took treats to the young children of his customers too. He enjoyed seeing other people happy and would take the time to visit with long time customers about their families and hobbies. Leon was also called on by many customers to help them work their calves each spring.

He is survived by the love of his life Nikol Kelley of Alamosa, ex-wife and best friend Tandi of Alamosa, his beloved son Dustin (Shelby) of Parker, Colorado, his adored mother Bonnie Bolt of Alamosa, his siblings Julie Smith of Thornton, Colorado, Lowell (Amy) Bolt, Daren Bolt, Lynn (Chad) Liddell all from Alamosa, and Kristi Bolt of Greeley, Colorado, his nieces and nephews Michael (Samantha) and Elisa (Ben) Korf, Kassie (Fernando) Gonzales, Madison, Zane, Serina & Chase Howard, Kiya & Keesa Salmans, Tara and Andrew(Yesenia) Bolt, Chet (Shaye), Blake (Aftynne) and Kami Corzine, Shianne Bolt, Darby and Chloe Bolt, and Colton and Kyler Liddell, his great nieces and nephews Kash and Jaxon Smith, Kaliyah and Kysen Proctor, Leyna Blacksmith, Kruz, Kash, and Kimberlee Gonzales, Colt & Corbyn Corzine, Olivia Corzine, Lane Bolt, his best buddy Isaiah Kelley and his extended family Harvey & Sandy Smalley, Mike & Skeeter Salmans and Greg Howard.

Leon was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Bolt, his brother “Robbie” Bolt, his niece Natasha Smith, great niece Kesha Proctor Smith and his sister-in-law Kimberlee Howard and brother-in-law Dave Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church, 1861 Rd 10 S, Alamosa, CO. A community dinner will follow at the Monte Vista Coop community room in Monte VIsta, Colorado.
