Obituary for Larry Hanel

Larry Hanel
Alamosa – Lawrence “Larry” Jerry Hanel, 72, passed away in his home in Alamosa, Colorado on Friday, September 15, 2017.

Larry was born April 8, 1945 in Dickenson, North Dakota to Jerry and Margaret Hanel. In 1972 he married the love of his life, Kathie Eckard, and spent 45 wonderful years of marriage together. During those years they raised three amazing children; Jody, Jason, and Justin.

Larry was a Wonder Bread distributor for 42 years. When he wasn’t working during the day he was enjoying the mountains and wilderness or doing his favorite activity, fishing. It didn’t matter if it was a lake, a river, or a stream, if the water was flowing Larry would be fishing.

One of his favorite evening activities was the local bowling league. He had been a member of the league for years and was very talented at the sport. Another of Larry’s joys was his yearly trip to Las Vegas, Nevada to watch the Pro Bull Riding (PBR) Championship. Although Larry loved fishing, bowling, and bull riding there is one thing he loved more than all. His Amazing family and wonderful grandchildren. They were truly the light of his life. He will never be forgotten by those he loved so dearly.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Kathie, of the family home in Alamosa. His children; Jody (Randy) Kern of Del Norte, Colorado, Jason (Kristina) Hanel of Alamosa, Colorado and Justin (Starr) Hanel of Monte Vista, Colorado, Pat, Mike and David Adcock. His grandchildren; Riley Kern, Jessica Kern, Jonathan Hanel, Josh Hanel, and Kynzleigh Hanel. As well as 3 brothers, numerous nieces and nephews, and many close family friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Margaret Hanel.
Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa. A memorial service will be held at Alamosa Elks Lodge BPOE 1297 in Alamosa on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, and may be made either online or in care of the funeral home office.
