Obituary for Laurens K. Witt

Laurens Witt was called home on Saturday, July 13, 2019.

Eighty-four years ago, Laurens Witt was born to Casper and Elizabeth Witt. Sixty-three years ago, Laurens married Marilyn Heersink. They made their home in the community of Waverly, 8 miles southwest of Alamosa, Colorado. During their marriage, they became parents of four children.

Laurens started working as a painter with his father, Casper Witt. A few years later, he took the trade as his own. His meticulous eye for detail and hard work eventually made his name well-known in Alamosa, as well as, the SLV. Along with house painting, he also did wallpapering and other odd jobs for his customers. He enjoyed sketching, oil painting, gardening, and wood-working as hobbies. Animals and nature always had a place in his heart.

He was a member of the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church, south of Alamosa, in the country community of Waverly. In his younger years, he was a Sunday School teacher, elder in the Council, a part of singing group. He was also a leader for the youth group and Cadets.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and children – Lauralyn Marshall of Illinois, Mark Witt of Missouri, Kenton (Melanie) Witt of Iowa, and Lynnette (Brett) Marino of Alamosa. He was the grandfather of four, three grandsons and one granddaughter. As well as his brother and wife of Ripon, CA (Paul and Phyllis Witt) and brother-in-law of Ripon, CA (Clarence Schuiling).

He is preceded in death by his parents (Casper and Elizabeth Witt of Alamosa, CO), sister (Julie Schuiling of Ripon, CA), sister-in-law (Jessie Witt of Ripon, CA), and son-in-law (Al Marshall of Earlville, IL).

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday July 25, 2019 at the Alamosa Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa on Wednesday July 24, 2019. Contributions are suggested to Hospice Del Valle or to the Christian Community Service Projects through the Alamosa Christian Reform Church and may be made on care of the funeral home office.
