Obituary for Kim Arvona Humphreys-Leavitt

Fort Garland resident, Kim Humphreys Leavitt, passed away in the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa on December 7, 2021 at the age of 64.

Kim was born in Jacksonville, Florida to David M. Humphreys (CHC,USN) and Wilmine Humphreys. Kim grew up in a Navy family with her two sisters and enjoyed living in many different states and countries as a Navy Junior.

Kim married Jeffrey Leavitt in 1993 while living in Baltimore, Maryland. After six years, they decided to leave the big city of Baltimore and move to a smaller community with mountains, clean air and a quieter lifestyle. They lived in the Sangre de Cristo Ranches east of Fort Garland, Colorado for 25 years.

Kim earned her Registered Nurse degree while living in Colorado. She worked in Walsenburg, Colorado for several years. Her hobbies included gardening, arts and crafts, and planning outrageous tea parties with her sister, Gwen, who lives in the Sangre de Cristo Ranches. What fun the two Humphreys sisters had together in Colorado.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, David M. Humphreys, her mother Wilmine Lane Humphreys, and her sister, Gayle Douglas. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Levitt, her sister Gwen (James) Henzi, nephew, David (Shaina) Henzi, niece, Kari (Carl) Baumann, nephews Natrabo and Ace Douglas, niece Pauline Douglas. Also surviving is her great-niece Katherine Baumann, great nephews Jackson, Bennett Baumann and Lucas Henzi.

A Celebration of Life honoring Kim will be planned for a later date. Kim’s family would like to express their gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses, Allied Health Therapists, and staff of the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion for Kim.
