Obituary for Julian Lawrence Lopez

Alamosa – Julian “Grouchy” Lopez

Julian Lawrence Lopez, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, in his hometown of Alamosa, CO, the same place where his journey began on February 16, 1950. Julian's life was a testament to the power of selflessness and dedication, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Julian's early years in Alamosa laid a strong foundation for a life full of accomplishment and service. He was a cherished son to his late parents, Carmel and Margret (Salazar) Lopez, and a supportive brother to his brothers and sisters including his late brother Matthew Lopez, and his beloved first wife Claudia. Julian's academic pursuits led him to earn a master's degree, after which he devoted many years to educating the youth of Alamosa as a respected member of the local school district. His passion for teaching was matched only by his commitment to his family's plumbing and heating business, which served the community with distinction.

Marriage to his beloved wife Wendy was a cornerstone of Julian's life, and together they built a family that was a source of immense pride and joy. He was a loving father to Michael (Danielle) Lopez of Parker, CO, Julianne Lopez of San Antonio, TX, Richard Lopez of San Francisco, CA, and Lauren Lopez of Phoenix, AZ. His role as a grandfather to Marques, Jayden, Sarye, and Michael was one he cherished deeply, delighting in their accomplishments and reveling in their growth.

Julian's contributions to his community extended beyond his professional endeavors. As a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he found strength and solace in his faith. His service as a CHSAA and USATF official demonstrated his dedication to sportsmanship and his love for athletics. Julian was also an enthusiastic Denver Broncos fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his favorite team.

His interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. Julian found pleasure in the simple joys of golf, fishing, and camping, embracing the beauty of the great outdoors. His intellectual curiosity was evident in his love for reading, particularly on topics of faith and religion, which nourished his soul and deepened his understanding of the world.

Above all, family was the greatest aspect of Julian's life. The moments spent watching his grandchildren engage in their activities, and the time shared with his family, were among his most treasured. He was a man who gave freely of himself, always placing the needs of others before his own, and his legacy of love and kindness will live on through those he touched.

Julian's life was one of purpose and impact, and though he has left this earthly realm, the memories of his warmth and generosity will remain a comforting presence. His was a life well-lived, full of compassion and grace, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune to know him.

A life such as Julian's is not easily forgotten, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire his family, friends, and all who were blessed to cross paths with him. Julian Lawrence Lopez's story is one of unwavering love and selfless service, a true testament to the enduring power of a life dedicated to others. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, and his legacy will be cherished for generations to come.
