Josie Chacon passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Alamosa surrounded by her daughter Beverly, son in law Lyle and granddaughter Brittney on January 28, 2022. Josie was welcomed into the world on March 14, 1942, in La Jara Colorado to Antonio Marquez and Bertha Ortiz- Marquez.
Josie was a beautiful wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She married Harold Cordova in August of 1959 and they were blessed with four children. Josie loved the time she spent with her family. Her catholic faith was a meaningful part of her daily life. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, bingo, dancing, gambling and listening to Spanish and country music. Josie worked at Manassa Market, the La Jara Clinic and later retired from Casa De Oro. After her retirement she continued caregiving, working alongside her daughter Beverly at Blue Peaks.
She married Adelmo Chacon in San Luis Colorado on July 19 1995 and they enjoyed traveling back and forth from La Jara, Colorado to Bull Head City Arizona. In the recent years they chose to stay in Colorado. To Josie being with her family is what she cherished most.
She fought a ten year battle of Pulmonary Hypertension and she outlived the odds as her pulmonologist always said. After her husband’s passing she was faced with a two year health struggle, by her side taking care of her was Beverly, Lyle and Brittney.
Survivors include her daughters Beverly (Lyle) Cordova of Alamosa, Yvonne (Alan) Cordova, sons J.R. (Tami) Cordova both from Albuquerque, NM and Bobby Cordova of Manassa, her sisters Connie Bryan of New Braunfels, TX, Betty Jiron of Irvine, CA, her brothers Dwayne Marquez and Daniel (Debbie) Marquez both of La Jara, CO, Tony (Dianne) Marquez of Gilbert AZ, and Charles (Sandra) Marquez of Las Vegas, NV, her grandchildren Tiffany Harrell, Coy Cordova, Jeff Maestas, Justin Maestas, Jordan Maestas, Ashley Perea, Brittney Abeyta, Dylan Cordova, Brandon Cordova and Austin Cordova, 11 great-grandchildren and 5 step-granddaughters.
Preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Bertha Marquez, her sister Beatrice Hamilton-Pacheco, her niece Malerie Valdez, great nephew Nicolas, her husband Adelmo Chacon and her uncle Joe Marquez.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 7:00 PM at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. also at the church with interment following at the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa.
