Obituary for Josephine Mary Beiriger

Longtime resident of the San Luis Valley, Josephine Mary Beiriger, 91, passed away on June 20, 2022. She was born on October 7, 1930 in Del Norte, Colorado to Gary and Hulda (Shcilling) Stoeber. She married Floyd Leo Beiriger on May 3, 1954 in Center, Colorado. In 1958 Floyd Purchased his family’s farm in Hooper, Colorado and Josephine joined him in the day-to-day duties of the farm as well as keeping the house and raising their seven children. She was a truly devoted wife and loving mother. Most of her life was spent living on their farm near Hooper and recounted many times, ”though at times things were hard, these were the best years of my life”! After Floyd’s passing on October 4. 2003, she moved to Alamosa and then most recently moved to Mosca, Colorado.

Josephine cooked for the lunch crowd at Alamosa Sale Barn, she was the head-cook at the 4U-R Ranch near Creede, Colorado and she also spent several years in retail working for H & R Supply in Center and then in Alamosa. In 1999, she went to work at the Sangre de Cristo schools as a dishwasher and a prep cook, after 12 years of service she retired in 2011.

Josephine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a devotee of the Holy Rosary and loved spending time with her family. She loved to travel and enjoyed the company of her sister Bernice Feck on a trip to Italy, Hawaii and an Alaskan Cruise, as well as, periodic short weekend visits spent talking about days gone by and taking long walks. Josephine also enjoyed playing the harmonica for her grandchildren and doing sin-a-longs. She loved the mountains, taking care of her yard and going on walks.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Curtis of Mosca, James (Sharon) Beiriger of Hooper, Wanda Wornick of Hooper, Dennis (Sandra) Beiriger of Hooper, Mark (Loretta) Beiriger of Hooper, Barbara (Ronny) Escheman of Alamosa, her son-in-law Vaughn Dieckman, twenty-seven grandchildren, sixty-nine great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren as well as her siblings: Midge Gallighugh, Robert (Bobby) Stoeber, Leola Geiser, Liana McKinley, Mike Stoeber, Joe Stoeber and Bernice Feck as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Linda Dieckman and two great grandchildren Leslie and Jackson Lane, and son-n-law Larry Wornick; as well as her siblings: James Beiriger, Bertha Plane, Theresa Langston, Ernest Stoeber, Patricia Haefeli, Hugo Stoeber, Edward Stoeber, Fr. Charles Stoeber, Mae Peterson, George Stoeber, Bessie Beiriger and Emma Stoeber.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow services in Speiser Cemetery near Hooper, Colorado.
