Monte Vista resident, Jose "Joe" Ramon Martinez, 76, passed away on January 28, 2016 at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, surrounded by his loving family.

Jose was born on May 13, 1939 in Guadalupita, New Mexico to Ambrosio and Octaviana Martinez. He married Rose Maestas in 1961. Joe spent many years working with his hands. He was a farmer and a mechanic, until an injury forced him to retire. Jose enjoyed time with his family, fishing, working on cars and caring for his yard and garden. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a resident of the Legacy, he enjoyed bingo and had many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Martinez of Monte Vista, his children; Raymond (Araceli) Martinez of Monte Vista, Jeffrey (Dolores) Martinez of Las Vegas, Nevada, Patrick (Traci) Martinez of Del Norte and Lester (Diane) Martinez of Monte Vista, 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, his sister, Lourdes (Jimmy) Vigil of Monte Vista and his sister Nicki Archuleta of Grants, New Mexico as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Vicente Gomez, Petrolina Gomez, Mike Gomez, Amanda Gomez and Timothy Martinez. As well as one granddaughter, Shawnase Martinez.

A Vigil Service with recitation of the Rosary will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista, on Tuesday February 2 at 7PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 also at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Cremation will follow services.
