Monte Vista resident Jimmie “Jim” Gerlock, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on June 5, 2020, in the arms of his loving wife, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born on August 11, 1938 to Louie and Katherine (Schleinning) Gerlock in Sugar City, Colorado. After graduating high school in 1957, he spent several years farming in Gill, Colorado. He moved to Monte Vista, Colorado in 1983 where he met his wife Rebecca “Becky” Plane. They were married on July 21, 1989.

Jim worked at Adams State College in the maintenance department until retiring in 2003. He was always a farmer at heart and continued working potato harvest until his cancer diagnosis in 2010. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of Monte Vista Elks Lodge #2456. He had many interests, including camping, fishing and riding ATV’s in the mountains. He was an avid woodworker and built many pieces of furniture for his home and for others. Every year he had a big garden and kept a beautiful yard.

Jim is survived by his wife Becky, his daughters, Cathy (Ty) Ryff of Topeka, Kansas and Melissa Widger of Alamosa, Colorado, his step daughters, Tammie Ball and Teri Carroll, his grandchildren, Steven Garcia, Sarah Duzenack, Alorah Duzenack, Layne Duzenack, Kendra (Justin) Rogers, Nathanyel Widger, Kendal Widger, Kaylee Gonzales, Keianna Gonzales, Travis Ryff, Lindsay (Ryan) Keen, his great grandchildren, Kinsley Rogers, Jack Ryff, Lucy Ryff, Mason Keen and Kyson Keen as well as his sister, Margaret Torgler and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Shane Widger and Darrell Gerlock, his grandson, Nicolas Garcia and his siblings, Fred Gerlock, David Gerlock, Marie Schweizer and Annie Richardson.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday June 12, 2020 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista.
