Obituary for Jean Davis (Peterson)

Alamosa and former Albuquerque, New Mexico resident Jean Peterson Davis, 99, died March 27, 2022 at The Bridge at Alamosa assisted living facility.

Jean’s life began in Sanford, Colorado on April 5, 1922 the proud daughter of Wilford Peterson and Jennie Paulson Peterson. She grew up in the Sanford and La Jara area. She then moved to Rhode Island while her husband went through boot camp. Later they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and spent most of her adult life there. Jean married Roy Howard Davis, Sr. in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 21, 1939 and their marriage was sealed for all time and eternity in the Mesa, Arizona temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 12, 1946. Roy and Jean enjoyed 74 ½ years together until his death in 2013.

Jean worked until her retirement for Mountain Bell Telecommunications as an Accounting Manager. She was the first woman to achieve the highest executive position there. She was also the first woman to travel in Mountain Bell’s corporate jet.

Jean’s love was her family and she enjoyed the time spent with them. In her spare time, she liked to watch college basketball and football and was an avid fan. She also enjoyed going to the casino, which she affectionately termed “Going to the Office.”

She is survived by her two sons Roy Howard (Jan) Davis, Jr., of Roseville, CA, and Walt (Gloria) Davis of Antonito, CO; her grandchildren Brian (Audrey) Davis, Lance (Dawn) Davis, Jason Davis, Eric (Lisa) Davis, Scott Davis, Jeff Davis, Kendra Jean (Ajay) Singh and Kristy (Jason) Radley; her sister Bonnie Winters; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings Maxine Poulson, Olive Reed, Mary June Miller, Wilford Lee Peterson, David Hal Peterson and Andrew Frank Peterson.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Sanford Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow services in the Sanford Cemetery.
