Obituary for Isaias Walter Gurule

Mogote resident Isaias Walter Gurule, 89, was called home to be with his heavenly father on September 27, 2022 at his home in Mogote, surrounded by his loving family.

He is preceded in death by his patient and loving wife Gloria R. Gurule, and his eldest son Celedon Gurule, his sisters Evangeline Perea, Nicholasa Martinez, and Maria Gurule, his brothers Celedon, Elario, Dan, Lionel, Patrick and Eloy Gurule.

Isaias was born in Las Mesitas, Colorado on November 20, 1932, to Antonio A. Gurule and Elizabeth Jaramillo Gurule.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing poker and gambling. He was known to say “That in a real poker game, you would be shot”, when playing cards at home during the holidays. He also used to say “dirty dog rattlesnake in the grass”.

He is survived by his children Cynthia (Dennis) Partch of Fox Creek, Patricia Rael of Alamosa, Liz (Dave) Garcia of Alamosa, Antonio (Kelly) Gurule of Alamosa, Isaias Gurule of Antonito, Victoria Gurule of Antonito, Jessica Gurule of Alamosa. He leaves behind twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren; his two brothers Patricio and Flamino Gurule; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Cremation was chosen and a Recitation of the Rosary will be held 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2022 followed by a Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2022, both to be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Inurnment will follow services at the Gurule Family Cemetery in Mogote.
