Obituary for Harman J Hostetter

Well known and longtime La Jara resident Harman J Hostetter, 66, died December 28, 2023 at the Conejos County Hospital in La Jara.

Harman’s life began in Alamosa, Colorado on March 30, 1957, the son of Warren Glen Hostetter and Edith Christine Renner Hostetter. He met the love of his life, Dianne Thomas, in the 8th grade and they were united in marriage and sealed for all time and eternity on July 7, 1978 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Harman owned and operated Allpine Lumber in La Jara for 30 years, and following his “retirement” started a handyman business that was still operating up until his death.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a mission from 1976-78 in the Michigan East-Lansing area. Harman served in many callings, including as Bishop, Stake Presidency Counselor, and Stake Patriarch, all of which he enjoyed immensely.

He loved spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren. Harman enjoyed running and over the years completed 17 marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2017. He was a cross country and track coach for both middle school and high school.

Harman is survived by his wife Dianne Hostetter of La Jara; his children Adam (Amelia) Hostetter of St. Cloud, FL, Michael (Kelsi) Hostetter of Sanford, CO, Megan (Derick) Fenton of Montrose, CO, Michelle (Cacel) Santos of St. Cloud, FL, Chelsea (Jonathan) Hall of Tuscaloosa, AL, Thomas Hostetter of La Jara, CO, and Caitlin (Mason) Butikofer of Burley, ID; twenty-nine grandchildren; his siblings Barbara Jackson Oppenshaw of Lehi, UT, Evelyn Peterson of Queen Creek, AZ, and John Hostetter of Grand Junction, CO; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and a host of friends.
