Obituary for Gordy Luther Bagwell

Gordy Luther Bagwell, 99

Life-long Manassa resident, Gordy L. Bagwell, passed away in Conejos County Hospital on Thursday, February 14, 2019. He was born April 11, 1919 in Los Cerritos, Colorado to Luther Norland Bagwell and Mary Catherine “Katie” Brothers Bagwell. He was the fourth of seven children. He married Ruth Weddington on June 18, 1939 in San Luis, Colorado. They were later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on January 6, 1955.

He was a life-long rancher and farmer who dearly loved his sheep. He always had a dog. He was Cattleman of the Year in 1998. He was still cutting hay in his 95th year. He also loved to fish and was an excellent fly-fisherman. He loved the mountains.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions in the Church. He served a mission with his wife in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Mission from July 1980 until December 1981.

He is survived by his four children: Tom (Barbara) Bagwell, Lee (Grace) Bagwell , and Charles of Manassa and Barbara Gay (Dave) Goddard of Castle Rock, Colorado. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Janet Harris, Doug (Lynda) Bagwell, Melanie Bagwell, Lisa (Vern) Rhead, Terri (Matt) Neurenburg, David (Connie) Goddard, Steven (Karen) Goddard, Stephanie (Aaron) Bothell, Randal (Cherrie) Bagwell, Rebecca (Doug) Chapman, James Bagwell, Melissa (Levin) Flake, and Danielle Bagwell. He is also survived by his sisters, Coral Sowards and Radeen Sigmon. He also is survived by 37 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ruth. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Afton Huffaker, Verla Crowther, and Thora Goimarac and brother, LaVere Bagwell and great-granddaughter, Kristi Bagwell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 18th at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Manassa. A viewing for friends and family will be held Sunday evening, February 17th from 5 to 7 p.m. also at the Manassa church building as well as from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. before funeral services. Interment will follow funeral services at the Manassa Cemetery.
