Gloria Mott Wuckert, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2020 in Sandy, Utah of natural causes incident to age. She was born on September 17, 1928 in Alamosa, Colorado to Jacob Lyman Mott and Elsie Sowards, one of 12 children.
Gloria married the love of her life, Donald James Wuckert, on June 25, 1950 in Alamosa.
After graduating from high school, Gloria went to cosmetology school in Denver and received her license to be a hairdresser/beautician. After marrying Don and settling in Alamosa, she became a housewife which she thoroughly loved as it reminded her of growing up on a farm in a large family in the Carmel district near Alamosa.
From this marriage two children were born, Alan Kent and Pamela Jo. Throughout her life, Gloria gave unwavering support to Don in his many businesses. These included the Home Lumber Co., First National Bank in Alamosa (which later grew to include other branches in the San Luis Valley), Alamosa Plaza Apartments, Apple tree Storage
(which they jokingly called Easy Street), among other ventures.
Gloria was an excellent seamstress, knitter, and cook. She made many beautiful items for friends and family. Her cooking was legendary and loved by all. Favorites that she made included chicken tamales, kraut bierok, wilted spinach salad, and rhubarb pie—just a small sampling of her cooking prowess. She loved candy and treats and always had a secret stash which she thought nobody knew about, but we all did.
Gloria was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved the Gospel dearly.
Gloria is survived by her children, Alan (Janice) Wuckert, Murray, UT, and Pam (Chris) Morgan, Draper, UT, and 5 grandchildren, Heidi, Kristjan, Nick, Taylor, and Caitlin. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren, Maren, Porter, Ben, Indy, Heath, Cole, Olivia, Emma, and Amelia. She is also survived by her siblings, Donna (Betty), Carol, Kathleen, Joe, and Jeannie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, and her siblings Lyman, Maurice, Winfred, June, Marilyn, and Joyce.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the many people who have given great care and assistance to Gloria over the past many years. This includes her neighbors and friends in Alamosa, and her live-in roommates Kandace, Casey, Lisyuri, and Nicole.
Also, the staff at Cedarwood at Sandy, and Encompass Health and Hospice are due special recognition and our heartfelt gratitude for their kind and tender care.
Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, our family is concerned for the health and safety of all those family and friends who loved our mother. We have decided that it is best for us to not have a viewing and funeral for her at this time. A private graveside service and internment will take place at the Alamosa Cemetery under the direction of Rogers Family Mortuary. A family celebration of our mother’s life will be held at a later date. We appreciate all of your love and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Gloria’s honor to San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, or to a charity of your choice. To leave online condolences or words of strength for the family, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com.
