Obituary for Gloria Stella Romero

Longtime Monte Vista resident Gloria Stella Romero, 78, was given her angel wings on August 16, 2022 at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 24, 1944 in Seven Mile Plaza, Colorado to Eppie and Eufelia (Valdez) Martinez. Gloria married the love of her life, her lifetime partner James “Jimmy” Donald Lee Romero on February 27, 1965 in Del Norte, Colorado.

Gloria enjoyed sewing, cooking, working in her garden, reading, drinking coffee and watching the news. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband James “Jimmy” Romero of Monte Vista, her children, Lynn (Kent) Romero-Gonzales of Monte Vista, James Donald Lee (Andrea Gutierez) Romero, Jr. of Monte Vista and Joyce Rita (Ryan Edwards) Paulson of Monte Vista, her grandchildren, Krystal (Matthew) Owsley, James (Jasmine) Romero, Keith (Savannah) Romero, Anfernee (Krista) Romero, Antoine (Bobbie) Gomez and Aeneas Gomez, her great grandchildren, Zanayla, Marquez, Evanaya, Gunner, Jamiyah, Jalayah, Kyden, Kylah, Jacie, Levi and Xyrie, her siblings, Joe Martinez, Ernie (Sandra) Martinez, Frances (Frank) Chavez, her sister-in-law Laura Chacon Martinez as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Eppie Joe Martinez, her nephew Nick Martinez and her niece, Wanda Martinez.

The family would like to thank PA-C Michael Noonan, all the hospital staff at Rio Grande Hospital as well as the Doctors, Surgeons and staff at San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center for the exceptional care she received until her final days. A special thank you to her grandson Aeneas Gomez for always taking care of Grandma, she was blessed to have you always there to care for her.
