Del Norte - Longtime Del Norte resident Gladyse Marie Dilley, 87, passed away on December 11, 2015. She was born on September 2, 1928 in Olustee, Oklahoma, still Chickasaw Indian Territory, to William Leroy and Mattie Louise Ford Peckumn. She married Donald Gene Dilley on November 8, 1947 in Taos, New Mexico.

For many years, she worked in education, banking, and following her retirement she worked for the Forest Service. She was an active member of New Life Fellowship Church in Del Norte. She enjoyed being a part of a women’s group who served at the soup kitchens in San Carlos, Mexico where her and Don spent the winter’s. Gladyse enjoyed flowers, especially tending to her Iris and gladiolas; she always had a garden and loved to be outside. She had a deep love for animals, especially her white mule, Lucy. She cooked for many hunting camps and camping trips to help with the family business. She loved hosting family picnics and sharing homemade ice cream with her family. She enjoyed fishing in the ocean in San Carlos, Mexico, her husband would drive the boat and she would catch the Dorado and Yellow Fin Tuna. All of her life, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren were her world.

Gladyse is survived by her children, Barbara (Don) Nelson, Billy Joe (Debbie Lagan) Dilley, Carol (Mike) Phillips and Ronnie (Veronica) Dilley, her grandchildren, Neil (Angie) Nelson, Darrel (Heather) Nelson, Ashley Rose (Jarrod) Dalton (Daughter of Debbie Rose Dilley), Chelsea Rose (Jason) Dilley-Lindsay, Misty Dawn (Jack) McCullah, Jeremiah Christopher (Stephanie) Dilley, Clinton Michael (Teri) Phillips, Travis William (Morgan) Phillips, Linzey Kay (Levi) Vigil and Cody Reyes Dilley, her great grandchildren, Austin Lee Nelson, Samantha Dawn Nelson, Sophia Elizabeth Nelson, Ava Rose Nelson, Jackson Daniel Dalton, Avery Jay Lindsay, Jacy Lynn Phillips, Lane Michael Phillips, Hayley Wilcox, Jayden Wilcox, Trey Dale Dilley, Chey Ann Dilley, Zachariah Don Dilley, Exzier Shimimoto, and Xander Shimimoto, her siblings, Doil (Faye) Peckumn, Delbert(Donna) Peckumn and Ralph (Hope) Peckumn as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, her son Dale Leroy Dilley as well as her siblings, Carl Peckumn, Sarah Nell Slade and Billie Louise Meadows.

Cremation was selected and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday December 28, 2015 at the New Life Fellowship Church in Del Norte. Inurnment of ashes will follow in the Del Norte Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would suggest donations be made to Rio Grande Hospital or New Life Fellowship Church in Del Norte and may be made in care of the funeral home office. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Rio Grande Hospital and Dr. Tiffany Ward and Dr. Dale Berkbigler and staff.
