Obituary for Gilbert Eugene Garcia
Gilbert Eugene Garcia passed away unexpectedly in Del Norte, Colorado on December 26, 2023. Gilbert was born February 14, 1960 in Del Norte Colorado to Roger and Oralia Garcia. Gilbert and his family spent the early years of his life moving around Colorado; the family spent time in Gunnison, Hotchkiss, Montrose, Cortez, and Monte Vista before settling in Del Norte. Gilbert graduated from Del Norte High School in 1978.
Gilbert met the love of his life, Leona Garcia, at an early age; they were married on December 13, 1986. Gilbert and Leona have three children: Kelly (Nici) Garcia, Krystal (Jeremy) Taylor, and Kyle Garcia. Gilbert loved spending time with his children. Gilbert also loved being “Pa”; Gilbert’s pride and joy were his grandchildren: Kannon and Allyson Garcia, Natalie Taylor, and Cleo Garcia. Gilbert was a family man and loved being involved in all their activities.
Gilbert’s family extended far past his wife, children, and grandchildren. Gilbert was the only brother to four sisters and was always there when they needed him. He spent countless hours with his nieces, nephews, and in laws.
Gilbert was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and camping year-round. Gilbert also loved playing horseshoes, volleyball, and watching Raiders football.
Gilbert was a hardworking man and always provided for his family. He took pride in his work, he always set an example for those around him and was admired by his coworkers; Gilbert was a skilled lumber grader, forklift operator, and rock crushing crew member.
Gilbert will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Gilbert is survived by his wife Leona Garcia of the family home in Del Norte, his three children Kelly (Nici) Garcia of Firestone, CO; Krystal (Jeremy) Taylor of Amarillo, TX and Kyle Garcia of Del Norte and his four grandchildren Kannon Garcia, Allyson Garcia, Natalie Taylor and Cleo Garcia. He is also survived by his four sisters Shirley Garcia, Kathy (Phil) Pacheco, Debbie Velasquez and Leslie (Jeff) Martinez and many nieces and nephews.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Oralia Garcia and his mother and father-in-law, Silivano and Delores Martinez and brother in laws Steven Martinez and Leroy Trujillo.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista.
