Obituary for George Randall Egbert
George Randall Egbert, 1955 -2022
George Egbert died at the age of 67 in the early morning hours of June 3. He exited this life sleeping peacefully after enjoying a fine meal and good company.
Born to George and Marie Egbert in 1955, George lived in numerous places with his father’s Army career. He spent his high school years in Santa Fe, NM. George and his wife Judy recently celebrated 39 years of marriage.
From sharing music to cooking amazing food, and in so many ways in between, he was a loving and passionate person with his family, friends and community.
His love of music started at an early age and he began playing drums professionally at sixteen. Along with some freelancing, he found long term band families with Gumbo, Tumbleweed, Little Ernie and the Big Thang and Sneakers. His music offered the opportunity to travel extensively, covering nearly all of the states and Canada.
George also expressed his creativity as an excellent cook and always wanted to share great flavors and quality ingredients with others. He operated the “Lost Gringo Grill”, a mobile event catering business, and always looked forward to preparing a meal for friends.
The pursuit of the best and freshest food lead him to his business where he was affectionately known as the “Shrimp Pimp”. Once or twice a year, he ventured to the Gulf Coast for the best shrimp, oysters and other southern treats. He took pleasure in making Alamosa’s land-locked customers happy to have truly fresh seafood.
George was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Judy, brother LaVar, sister Linnea, daughter Seana (Jeff) and grandchildren Hadlee and Xander.
Cremation was chosen and a private family service will be held. A musical celebration of life will be planned at a future date.
