Obituary for Gary Wayne Ramey

Gary W. Ramey, 70

Gary W. Ramey, 70, Sanford resident, lost his courageous battle with brain cancer on August 2, 2017. Gary was the oldest son of Vergil Fredrick Ramey and Margie Thorp Ramey. Born October 23, 1948 in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Gary spent his first years in Colorado, then moved to the San Francisco Bay area where his father was stationed in the Military. He attended and graduated from the Walnut Creek School. The Ramey family were very adventurous; Gary helped his father build their home as well as a yacht that his parents sailed from San Francisco Bay to Mexico. After graduation Gary traveled extensively through the Southwest and parts of Mexico. He returned to Colorado where his cousins had settled in the San Acacio area. Gary continued his education specializing in Computer Programming and Tech work; receiving his degree and many more accreditations his teachers found Gary to be very gifted in this area. Being an avid reader and spending time at the Conejos County Library, Gary worked with Librarian Maria DeHerrera for the last 20 years programming and maintaining the library’s computer network. He was very active in environmental issues, enjoying nature and the Crestone Festivals.

Gary was preceded in death by his Parents and younger brother Paul Ramey. He is survived by his cousins, Neal Fletcher and Phillip Fletcher. Gary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Funeral Services will be held at the Sanford Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 19, 2017 at 11:00 am.
