Fred Alfonso  Gonzales
Monte Vista - Monte Vista resident Fred Alfonso Gonzales, 83, passed away on January 29, 2016 at his home in Monte Vista under the care of Hospice and surrounded by his family.

Fred was born on June 22, 1932 in Sargent, Colorado to Alejandrino and Irene Gonzales. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Before his service, he married Lillian Gallegos in Monte Vista Colorado in 1953. In his earlier years, he worked for the Flour Mill and Skeff's Service Center until he started and managed his own painting business. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista and a very active member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He could often be found helping the VFW with Bingo and serving in many other capacities as well. Fred enjoyed working in his yard and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Lillian Gonzales of Monte Vista, his children; Consuelo (Dennis Dix) Gonzales of Monte Vista, Archibald Gonzales of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Cecelia (Mark) Crown of Omaha, Nebraska, Joan (Ples) Stone of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Doreen (Gustavo Salazar) Bermudez of Fort Morgan, Colorado and Angelica (Justin) Vargas of Monte Vista, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, his sisters Irene Gonzales of Monte Vista, Oma (Valentine) Hernandez of Monte Vista, Vivian Gonzales of Monte Vista, Brenda Gonzales of Denver, Barbara Gonzales of Monte Vista and his brother Johnny (Percilla) Gonzales of Denver, And one step-sister, Patsy (Lalo Falcon) Garcia of Monte Vista as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Alejandrino Gonzales and Irene Garcia, step-mother Annie Gonzales, sister Viola "Johnnie" Shaffer, and step-sister Sally Gardea.

Cremation was selected and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday February 9, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Vigil Service with recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday February 8, 2016 also at the church. Inurnment will be held at Homelake Cemetery following the Mass. Contributions are suggested to the VFW Post 3228 of Monte Vista and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
