Obituary

Longtime Alamosa resident Etta Belle Townsend, 86, passed away at the Evergreen Nursing home on May 22, 2019. Etta was born on November 26, 1932 in Denver, Colorado to Everett and Mary Thompson. She married the love of her life, Byrl Gene Townsend, on October 1, 1950 in Alamosa, Colorado.

Etta owned and operated Bee Gee’s restaurant with her husband Byrl for many years. She was a master at decorating the restaurant and was amazing at always making the numbers match. When she wasn’t crunching numbers she spent her evenings playing the piano, and having neighbors come and play along with her. During the days she spent her time in her yard meticulously weeding and watering her plants and vegetables.

Etta made many friends throughout her lifetime that lasted throughout her life. Those closest to here could always see that sweet smile of hers just looking into her eyes. Etta was a kind hearted woman who never spoke ill of anyone and always tried to focus on the bright side of any situation. She was a strong friend, and a loving mother that made sure her children were always cared for.

Etta is survived by her loving children; Susan Distel of Denver, Colorado, Stanley (Tammy) Townsend of Monte Vista, Colorado, and Stacy (Brad) Vigil of Alamosa, Colorado. Her siblings; Bud Thompson of Tucson, Arizona, and Norman (Carol) Thompson of Denver, Colorado. As well as Twelve grandchildren and numerous loving great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; Everett and Mary Thompson. Her husband, Byrl Townsend. And her son, Steven Byrl Townsend and her granddaughters Sherie and Amanda

Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa. A memorial service will be held at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Interment of her ashes as well as her husband and son’s ashes will take place in the Alamosa Cemetery following services. All are invited to join the family for a gathering after services at the Alamosa B.P.O.E #1297 Elks Lodge in Alamosa. Contributions in her memory are suggested to the Breast Cancer Foundation. "The span of our life is 70 years, or 80 if one is especially strong."(Psalms 90:10) Your loved one lived a long and blessed life. Imagine a time when we will have "everlasting life."(John 3:16) Imagine a time when "Those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out."(John 5:28,29) Then you will have the hope of seeing your loved one again. We can trust that God will fulfill these promises because he "cannot lie."(Titus 1:2) May you find comfort in these assurances to help you through this difficult time. My condolences."
