Obituary for Edward Guy Currier

Edward G. Currier died on January 16, 2021 in Alamosa, Colorado due to complications from a compromised heart valve. He was 83.

Ed, or Eck, as he was affectionately known, was born in Denver, Colorado, on March 31, 1937, to Howard and Anna (Karnes) Currier. They, along with his infant brother William, and older brother Don (formerly of Atwood, Kansas) preceded him in death.

Ed grew up in Hoxie, Kansas, and graduated from Sheridan County High School in 1955. He started farming before he graduated and did so for most of his life.

He married Kathryn (Katie) Treu in Hoxie on June 9, 1957, and they were married 63 years until his death. Eck continued to farm in Sheridan County with a few years away to serve in the United States Army. He was stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia, and in Dachau, Germany. After many years of farming, he became a Real Estate agent for Farm and Ranch Realty in Colby, Kansas. He and Katie later moved to Colby where he started his own appraisal and Real Estate business, Ed Currier Appraisal Service. Upon retirement, they moved to Alamosa, Colorado, to be near their youngest daughter and her family.

Eck was raised in the church and accepted Jesus as his Savior at a young age. He was baptized as a baby and later was immersed in baptism at the Hoxie Christain Church where he served as an elder and was a lifetime member. While in Alamosa they attended the Christian Reformed Church of Alamosa. His daughters, Patta and Paulette, grew up knowing a loving heavenly Father because they had had such a loving earthly one.

Ed is survived by his wife Katie of Alamosa; daughter Patta and husband Steve Dietz of Prosper, Texas; daughter Paulette and husband Randall Kiker of Red River, New Mexico; and his grandchildren Trent Dietz (and wife, Amanda) of Abilene, Texas; Garrett Dietz (and wife, Sarah) of Casper, Wyoming; Dallas Kiker of Red River, New Mexico; and Chase Kiker of Red River, New Mexico. Eck also enjoyed receiving pictures and videos of his three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Ezra, and Hazel, as well as having sweet relationships with many nieces and nephews and friends from all around.

Due to current health and safety concerns, memorial services are pending. Please feel free to send cards directly to the families or to P.O.Box 839 Red River, New Mexico 87558. Memorials in Ed’s name may also be made to the Hoxie (Kansas) Christian Church or Hospice del Valle (Alamosa) in care of Rogers Family Mortuary P.O. Box 1549 Alamosa, Colorado 81101. Most importantly, prayers for the family are greatly appreciated. To express online condolences to the family, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com
