Phil Peterson of Sanford Colorado passed away peacefully on July 6th, at Mercy Hospital in Durango, CO surrounded by his children. He was 84 years old. Phil was born on March 31, 1938 in Alamosa Colorado to Clayton and Lois Peterson.
He is survived by his children Tara (KC) Brimhall, Traci (Kevin) Peterson, Tamara (Gary) Hilton, Jack (Heather) Peterson, Jon (D’Ree) Peterson, Kurt Peterson, 18 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Siblings, Janet Morgan, Wade (Roxie) Peterson, Mark (Loretta) Peterson, and Roberta Hall, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Phil was a schoolteacher and farmer by trade. He loved his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren loved when he would say “well hello my little children” no matter how many were in the room or how old they were. He loved sports, mostly baseball and basketball. He played basketball in college and coached high school basketball. Phil was an avid reader who loved fishing, and horses, (and sometimes betting on the ponies).
His family will miss the way he put his cowboy hat on with one hand and we are all so happy that he will never lose his sunglasses again. Dad missed his friends at the coffee shop “office”. You were important to him (no matter his mood).
A graveside service will be held at the Sanford Cemetery on Wednesday, July 13th at 11:00 am. To express condolences, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com
