Obituary

Delores (Dee) Hamlett Marsalia was born in Humbolt, Tennessee on July 24, 1947. She attended Madison County schools, where she excelled at basketball, and graduated from South Side High School in 1965.
She attended Lambuth College and graduated from the University of Houston (Texas). Upon graduation she taught junior high school there and also coached the boy’s basketball team.

It was in Houston that Dee met and married Henry (Sonny) Marsalia. They resided in Rosenburg, Texas and Thibodaux, Louisiana before Sonny accepted a job in Venezuela. While in Venezuela, she and other wives from the United States began a program at a hospital working with children teaching them about good personal hygiene.

Upon retirement they returned to the United States and made their home in Fort Garland, Colorado, where they made many friends and Dee enjoyed playing golf.

She suffered a stroke on June 15, 2017 and had been wheel chair bound since. She resided in The Bridge at Alamosa, Colorado, an assisted living facility. On the morning of January 9, 2020 Dee passed away.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry (Sonny) Marsalia, her step-father, Earl Martin, her father, Robert Earl Hamlett and her sister Janice (Jan) Howell.

She is survived by her mother, Leandra (Lee) Martin, her brother, Curtis (Curt) Hamlett, and her step-daughter, Tara Marsalia, whom she loved as a daughter, a niece, Jennifer Hamlett Saucedo and nephews, Bryan Rice and Chris Hamlett.

Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa is in care of the arrangements. To leave online condolences or words of strength for the family, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com.
