Obituary for David F. "Dave" Talley
Our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, David F. “Dave” Talley, went to be with his Lord and Savior January 29, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, with his loving sons Charles and John by his side. Dave was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on March 15, 1940. He married the love of his life, Patricia Lehnerz on April 18, 1960, in Monte Vista, Colorado. There was a joyous reunion in Heaven of husband and wife of 61 years.
Dave is survived by his son Charles (Pam) of Bayfield, Colorado, John of Alamosa Colorado; his grandchildren Kara Pearson of Ignacio, Colorado, and Brandon (Rebekah) Talley of Ignacio, Colorado; great-grandchildren Heile Pearson of Cortez, Colorado, Rylee Pearson of Ignacio, Colorado, Colt, Khristian, and Austin Talley of Ignacio, Colorado, and Timber (Aaron) Liljenquist of Turlock, California; great-great-grandchildren Brooks, and Sawyer Liljenquist of Turlock, California, he is also survived by many family and friends.
Dave is preceded in death by his wife Pat, sister Shirley Roberts, brothers Richard and Rod Talley, and parents Dorthey and Wayne Talley.
In life, Dave was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting with his sons, and sharing his fishing skills with his family. Dave’s idea of a restful day was sitting on the side of a bank with a couple of lines in the water, not really caring of he caught something or not, but was joyful if he did between his naps. He enjoyed motorcycle riding in his younger days with his sons, and was always ready to go camping with the whole family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Dave was a legend in his high school days with basketball and football. There are multiple newspaper clippings stating “Too Much Talley” referring to his high scoring in basketball for the Alamosa Maroons, and the Monte Vista Pirates, as well as his undefeated seasons in football. He also played basketball for Adams State College.
Dave was an accomplished salesman with Underwood Chevrolet, DA Oil, and Farm Bureau Insurance. He left a lasting impression on everyone he served.
In his youth, he earned the Eagle Award in scouting. Dave was also a lifetime member of 60 years, with the Alamosa B.P.O.E. #1297 Elks Lodge.
